A BIG who Made a BIG Difference
Back in 2001 our agency matched Big Brother Layne with Little Brother Taylor as our agency has been doing here on Maui for the past 42 years. Although many good success stories come from the matches that have been made over the years, this story is an exceptional one. Layne and Taylor reached the 10th anniversary of their match which is reason in itself for great celebration. But even beyond that, we are celebrating because Taylor graduated from high school and went on to attend college at the University of Hawaii.
Taylor has shown resiliency through many challenges and obstacles in his life, but there is no doubt that the dedication, encouragement and support of his long time mentor Layne played a big role in his life. Taylor explains, "He plays a big part in my life, encouraging me day-to-day and caring for me and everyone else in the world. He’s just one of the coolest, most kind persons I know. He is the perfect example and a role model I look up to.”
Taylor has been recognized for being successful in his studies as well as for being a stand-out athlete. Big Brothers Big Sisters programs are proven to promote academic success and avoidance of risky behaviors and Taylor is a great example of our programs at work. Thank you to both Layne and Taylor for your dedication and participation in our agency.

Worth the Wait
"It took a while before I got matched with a big brother, but it was worth the wait. Scott has been my big brother for a couple years now. I really enjoy the activities we have done together. Some of the things we do are basketball, golf, and hang out at the gym. We usually end our time together with a bite to eat. He's take me to fun and different places to eat and talk story. But most of all, he is very supportive in coming to my basketball games and helping me with my fundraisers for Scouting. Scott takes an interest in what I am doing in school as well as my extra curricular activities. We keep in touch during the week by cell phone so we can plan for the coming free day. I am not very talkative with adults, but this program has helped me with talking and expressing myself with an adult." -- Little Brother Gio
